Decoding DOCman 2.0.0 RC3: How to hide document publish date, date modified & file size in Joomla

b_codeSharing my discovery for all the web designers out there! Within Joomla 2.5 I could’nt find any other way to edit the way DOCman displays its documents within Joomlas backend. This worked for me: to hide the document details including publish date, date modified etc., I edited the list.php file. This is found in the directory components > com_docman > views > documents > tmpl > list.php

Comment out the table within the div ‘docman-document-details’ (lines 21-48) and then the document details will be removed.

I also needed my documents to order in a descending fashion alphabetically. To do this open the html.php file located in components > com_docman > views > list > html.php. Change line 68 from $direction = ‘asc’; to $direction = ‘desc’;. This will order all the documents within each category reverse alphabetically. Success! I hope this helps any website designers save some time and leave a comment if you have a question, I will get back to you asap.

Note: To edit the files within your Joomla 2.5/3.0 site you will need to be able to access them via your cpanel (www.yourdomain.com/cpanel) or via ftp using your preferred code editing software e.g Adobe Dreamweaver. I will go through this in my next blog post and stay tuned for information regarding graphic design software. I am also going to reveal how I found out exactly which files to edit. Good luck!
